What inspired me to start this blog was my new book about artist Morris (Moe) Gollub. From a child I was inspired to play in the woods at the end of my street by the Dell Tarzan comics in the early fifties. I loved the comic covers painted by Morris Gollub though at the time I did not know who painted them. Now I am engaged in the project of writing about those covers and the many others painted by Moe. I am hoping that there are people out there who can help verify his work and that of the other great painters from that era. Most of the time they were not able to sign their work for various reasons. I am looking forward to hearing any ideas or information on this subject.
This is a cover by Moe Gollub and a samplel of his beautiful work for Western Publishing. He deserves to be recognized for his amazing creations.

Brilliant!Moe Gollub SO deserves to be recognised and lauded for a lifetime of wonderful [and often uncredited] work. I am 60 yrs of age and I never thought I'd be able to find out anything about the artist who drew the marvellous panels of the "champion the Wonder Horse" strips in the "Comic Annuals" I'd receive at Christmastime as a child in the 1950"s. The energy and vitality of equine {and human] movement conveyed in each masterfully composed frame was, and is, to me, awesome. "Way to go!' with your book, please keep me posted. ReplyDeleteThanks for your support Sam. You might want to check out some of these Four Color Issues for more of Moe's Interior art work.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Four Color 713 The Animal World. However, Four Color issues 290, 413, 432, 440, 487, 566, 570, 582, 620, 653. There are many more but you can see Gollub illustrated stories in all of these issues.
There is a typo above Issue 570 should have been 510. Sorry and thanks again.
